Il nostro quartiere

Ubud is the undisputed center of culture and art in Bali. The three major museums are all here in Ubud including ARMA, Puri Lukisan  and Neka. These Museums detail the history of painting in Bali and especially the influence of the Western artists who worked in Bali in the early twentieth century. Adjacent to Uud are the three art villages including Mas for woodcarving, Celuk for silversmith, and Batubulan for stone carving, Dancing performances at the Ubud Palace are among the best in town. Nightly performances offer a sampling of different traditional dances, whilst the Kecek monkey dance is a must for many, originally choreographed in the 30’s as a spectacle for tourists. The Ibu Oka restaurant by the Palace offers the best Babi Guling (suckling pig) on the island which even attracts local people driving all the way from Nusa Dua or Denpasar. A plethora of gourmet restaurants which seem like Maharaja’s marble palaces, day spas, painting galleries, and souvenir boutiques overflows the busiest shopping areas including the boutique Monkey Forest Street and Hanoman Streets, both standing in front of tranquil rice fields and small alleys leading to exotic Balinese landscapes and family compounds. Trekking in the rice field will be a wonderful way to explore authentic Balinese culture. It is not hard to cast oneself the role of the hedonistic “seeker” portrayed by Julia Robert’s in the film Eat, Pray, Love. More info http://www.matahariubud.com/SevenUbudClassics.htm. Sanur Beach is preferred for its beauty and charm and is a twenty-five minute drive from Ubud.
