Our house will be available until Sat 27 October when we return from New York |
Come and discover the Forest of Dean, one of England's hidden Gems!
Situated in a quite cul-de-sac, our house is just three years old, with views of the river Severn. The house is warm, light and airy. The neighbors are friendly, will be happy to answer any questions and make you feel welcomed.
The lounge has a electric reclining leather sofa, which is super comfy. A large tv with Sky cable tv, and a large aquarium.
The kitchen, is small but well equipped with a fridge freezer, dish washer and washing machine / dryer. We enjoy cooking and the kitchen is well equipped with a cooker, microwave and large air fryer. Four people can easily sit around our small glass table. It overlooks the garden and has large bay windows.
The house has two bedrooms, a large master bedroom with two large built in wardrobes and a double bed. The second bedroom is smaller with a single bed, and my wife's sewing machines. We have a spare folding bed, and a blow up mattress. The bathroom has a toilet, and combined bath and shower, and there is a downstairs toilet.
There is a table and seating in the garden, if required.
The village has two supermarkets and a selection of takeaways half a mile away. There are two parking spaces in front of the house.
The Forest of Dean is one of England's hidden gems, and is only a few miles away, look out for the deer and wild boar!

Our Neighbourhood

Nearest Airport: Bristol - 35 miles
Lydney is situated in the Forest of Dean, which is located on the English / Welsh border, between the rivers Severn and Wye. A steam train line runs from the harbour up into the forest.
The forest is a mecca for nature lovers, and is famous for its off road cycle ways and for hiking. Its the only place in England where the forest are inhabited by wild boar and all type of deer. A few miles away is Puzzlewood and the Devils chapel. The later features in many star war movies, with its strange hollows and unusually shaped trees. The Devils chapel inspired Tolkien to write the Lord of the Rings, and the hobbit homes were inspired by the area. Whilst the river Severn is wide and notoriously fast flowing, with its many shifting sandbanks. The river Wye is slow and meanders across the landscape, through forested hills, heading down to the picturesque Tintern Abbey.
Crossing into Wales, the hills become mountainous culminating in the bleak and windswept Brecon Beacons. The four waterfalls walk is a must here, with a chance to walk behind a raging waterfall.
Hop on the train from Lydney, and let it whisk you to the Welsh capital Cardiff in less then an hour. If it is surf that takes your fancy, Rest Bay is 90 minutes drive away, be sure to take / hire a wet suite. A little further is the Gower peninsular, one of Wales tourist hot spots.
Back into England, cross the magnificent Severn bridge to reach Bristol, famous for its suspension bridge, harbour and Great Eastern Liner.
A little further a field is the Georgian city of Bath, with its Roman Hot water pools and abbey.
Our local town is Gloucester with its old cathedral and from their it is a short hop to explore the Cotswold's.
One thing I can assure you about a holiday in Lydney: you will be spoilt for choice!

About Our Family
My wife and I live in our home and I am about to retire, so hopefully we will have more time to travel.
I grew up on a farm and love living in the country, which is one of the main reasons we chose to live in such a beautiful area.
For the last twenty five years I have been a job coach, helping young disabled people find work. I am based in Bristol, which is our closest big city. I have had a varied career, working as a farmer, and then becoming an agricultural missionary in Brazil. I fell in love with the country and married a Brazilian / Italian - Alda. She is fluent in English, Portuguese and Italian, and can speak some Spanish.
She is a bus driver and navigates the forest with her double decker bus. Before that she worked herself up to being a care manager.
All our children are grown up and live far from us.
Lifestyle
I was raised as a farmer and spent my first thirty years working on the family farm. I then worked as a agricultural missionary in Southern Brazil. I was minister of a Baptist church for a few years, before marriage issues and mental health struggles forced me out of the ministry. I have found my true calling working with disabled young people, many of them are autistic and helping them find work. I have done this for 25 years now, and as I approach retirement, I hope to travel and discover more of this wonderful world whilst my wife and I are still fit. We love cooking so having a kitchen we can use is important to us.
We have been blessed with a lovely and live in a beautiful area, and would love to share this blessing with others . Do feel free to contact us!
