Historic house on the brookvalley in Heerlen, south of the Netherlands

Welcome in the best part of the Netherlands!!
For all types of activities is our nice, comfortabel house an excellent base.

Our home is located right next to the centre of the city (it only takes a five minute walk). The city Heerlen has 90.000 inhabitants, there are two big cinema's, there is a swimming pool, a theatre, nice restaurants, three museums (one historic and a minemuseum and one of modern arts), several dancings and possibilities for a nice evening. In august we expect a street-theatre festival and the visit of a circus as well. Take a look at the website: Heerlen. The centre is nice for shopping, take a drink on one of the many terraces, visit the wonderful cultural palace Schunck Glaspaleis (Schunck*) or one of the many cultural or sporting events during the summer and the other seasons as well.
In the immediate vicinity there are a zoo (Gaiapark), the biggest indoor ski-piste of Europe (Snowworld Landgraaf), a climbing gym, a big indoor childrens playground (Kinderstad) an indoor playground for adults with Glow in the dark Golf and a casino; there are the Gardens of the World (Mondo Verde) and lots more of interesting and enjoying attractions.
There is a forest behind our home for a little walk; it is equipped with some play-toys for little children. Food and beverageshops are in our area..
Heerlen is part of Zuid-Limburg (Maastricht Region), which is the most southern part of The Netherlands. You can get an impression on the website of the turist Information : www.vvvzuidlimburg.nl or: www.toerisme.nl/wiki/Heerlen or this small movie: https://vimeo.com/123548231.

The landscape is hilly, and in the direct surroundings of our city you'll find many places for open-air recreation, like forests and walking and cycling routes (we have 3 bikes available and we can arrange more if you want to). This part of the country is very well-known for its rustic environment. There are a lot of nice little villages, for example Valkenburg with its touristic attractions (13 km from Heerlen), and the bigger ones like Maastricht, capitol town of our province and well-known from the European conference (22 km from here), Aachen/Aix de la Chapelle (in Germany, 15 km from here) and Liege (in Belgium, 30 km). If you like windsurfing or sailing: in Roermond or near Maastricht is a nice lake.

Our house is very conveniënt . We live here since february 2001 and we are very fond of it. The house is built in 1920. The former owner renovated the outside, and we have renovated the inside, trying to respect the original style as much as possible.
We have a big garden behind our house with a forest behind it, a small garden/parking place in front of it, and a lot of room. We think it's a big house. In the (cool) cellar are the freezer, the washing-machine and the clothes-dryer. At the ground-floor we have the living room of about 35 m2, another room which is in use as our office, a kitchen with dishwasher, microwave/grill/oven and the usual things, and the toilet.
At the second floor we have a parents' bedroom (a big one with a two persons bed (lits-jumeaux)), a second room which is Jelle’s hobby-room (filled with electronic equipment), a third which is our library and at last a bathroom with bath, shower, bidet and toilet.
At the third floor we have the two children’s' bedrooms with a washing-stand. One room has a double bed and the other one a single bed. And at last we have a so-called guest-room, with one bed.

A short introduction of ourselves:
We are Karin -age 60 and Jelle -age 58. We have two children: Laurens, (28) who’s living in Amsterdam, and Tessel (26, a girl), who's working in Heerlen, but she has her own apartment.

We like to visit places with nice surroundings to cycle or for a short stay an interesting city.
We are looking forward to hear from you
Yours sincere,
            Karin & Jelle
