House in Dalkeith, near Edinburgh, Scotland
Our home is a modern conversion of a semi detached Victorian cottage, built in 1883, with an extension to the rear which comprises living room, modern kitchen and garden room. The master bedroom is on the ground floor at the front of the house, with ensuite showerroom, and the dining room also faces the front street. The main bathroom is also on the ground floor and features a bath and walk-in shower. Upstairs there is a double bedroom and a study/single bedroom.
There is a small paved garden to the front of the house, and a mature landscaped garden to the rear. We have a Tesco superstore open until midnight nearby, so shopping is extremely convenient. The house is located in a quiet and friendly street.
There are frequent buses into Edinburgh city centre from close by, or alternatively a train every 30 minutes. Most people find public transport an easier option than driving into the city as parking places are hard to find, and expensive.
We have completed 20 successful home exchanges since 2009, in the UK, Europe, North America, and Australia. Last year we had successful exchanges with couples who live in Orléans and Copenhagen.

Neighborhood
About the neighborhood
We live just outside Edinburgh, whose 'old' and 'new' towns are World Heritage Sites. It's an easy 35 minute bus journey from our home to the city centre. Edinburgh is full of history and culture with its castle, palace, art galleries, the Scottish parliament building, and of course all the theatre, restaurant, and entertainment opportunities you would expect in a capital city and major tourist destination.
The house is well situated for easy access to the motorway network, with Glasgow, Perth and Stirling all within an hour's drive. The beautiful Scottish Border towns are less than an hour south, and we are also close to East Lothian seaside towns and beaches.
Midlothian contains lovely walks and places of interest nearby including the famous Rosslyn Chapel, which is well worth a visit even if you're not a 'Da Vinci Code' fan.

Bob and Helen were informative and thoughtful. They were willing to help with our planning and were nice enough to leave us some of their winter coats if we needed them. Fortunately, we did not! Their house was as represented and we enjoyed spending most of our waking time at home in the sun porch on the back.
Great exchange, we met the exchangers before our time began. Bob and Helen’s house is absolutely charming, in a small Scottish friendly neighborhood, it has a beautiful sunroom facing a lovely garden. The house is comfortable and has all the amenities. Tesco is just around the corner, where you can get allmost anything. This exchange is in the Dalkieth suburb of Edinburgh, and is only a 20 min bus ride to the city. The bus is located Tesco. Wonderful exchange would highly recommend.
We spoke to Bob and Helen a few times before we exchanged and during our visit, they were very friendly and helpful. Their home is like a tardis and was much bigger than we expected from the front. Their garden is lovely and secure for our dog. Very well situated for Edinbugh, the coast and the Pentland hills. We would exchange with them again.
